We had another good day today fitting the LN4 prosthetic hands in Colombo, this time at the Army Base where some of the soldiers are rehabilitated after an injury that requires prosthetics. MG Susil Chandrapala was with this unit before his retirement. Now he is a member of the Rotary Club of Battaramulla. These connections have allowed us to find recipients in need of prosthetic limbs in Sri Lanka & we thank everyone who has been involved from the Rotary Club & also from the SriLankan Army.
The army personnel who work at the base are very knowledgeable in all things related to the recipients injuries & it puts us in the right place if we should require any adjustments. This is also where the longer arm prosthetics will be made for all recipients with a stump shorter than our required 10cms below the elbow.
We have also fitted personnel at this base two years ago & truly value the professional expertise, compassion & expert assistance we receive from the Army personnel, both here & in other locations throughout Sri Lanka.
All team positions were once again rotated today so that everyone gets the chance to carry out every job on
the team . Imagine the joy of fitting or training the person who receives the hand that you or your grandchildren built. Emotions run high & a whole new dimension is seen as the the recipient learns to use this life changing item that come into the country in something that looks like a child’s pencil case. We naturally wish all recipients well as they learn to fully utilise their new hand.
